Good murder mystery story with characters that absolutely tickled me. I laughed out loud many times. Didn’t love the end but still great.

The word that fits this book best is lovely. So lovely! The characters are the most lovable bunch that ever has been written into existence, I want them all to be my friends or grandparents. Their humour is also impeccable, I loved how they had their fears and worries about their age and about death, but tackled them with humour, confidence and acceptance. That was somehow very hopeful and healing for me. Haven't been this gleeful but also on the verge of tears while reading book in a long time.
And don't even get me started on the plot! There are few books that had me as invested in finding the culprit as this one. There were so many clues, and leads that turned out to be false, and plot twists. Everytime they had a new prime subject I was convinced that they finally caught the murderer and that I had called it all along, just to find out they were innocent. But it never felt forced or illogical. I actually think that there were enough clues so that I could have identified the killer far more early, I just kept getting mislead. It was so fun! Truly, an amazing book, certainly got me out of my reading slump.

This is a book showing people can be old but not useless. I like the idea of a group of talented elderly sleuths who obviously can investigate crimes better than police half their average age. The novel also provides a glimpse of what elderly homes are like (albeit rich elderly apartments which I doubt many can afford). Still, I have lots of problems with this book, foremost being the use of "illegal" methods to investigate and force the police to accept these methods. Given the mysterious background of Elizabeth, I guess there's a reason why she would resort to illegal measures but I don't like the tone of justifying these measures. In fact, coming from a criminal justice background, I dislike authors using a positive tone to describe illegal behaviors. I get that it's impossible to do everything by the book, especially when the main character is a sleuth without proper authority. Still, such obvious disregard of proper legal procedures can send wrong signals to the society.

Overall, this is an interesting read. I'm not quite sure whether I will read the sequel though because I still feel this book is a bit too farfetched for my taste. Will see.

This was great! I wasn't sure cosy mystery was for me but I had such a good time reading this. A good laugh and a good mystery with such loveable characters.

Driven by motivations of dark deeds that you can’t figure out even a little until it’s basically all laid out for you (I’m case that matters to you). Fun characters and story.
