It's a classic, and I love Shel Silverstein, so what's not to like about this book?

I cannot express how much I dislike this book. So many people think it is a sweet story, but I find it completely depressing. No one should give away all of him or herself just because he/she loves someone. When this happens, it's not sweet, but sad.

I don't even know how to feel. I saw a commenter who said they took this book ad a metaphor for the love parents have for their child and I totally agree. It displays it in such a easy and simple way about how some people will take all they can from one until there is no more left to give. Read it in a few minutes but it have so much meaning to it.

The classic tale about a tree who gives all that she can possibly give to the boy whom she loves. I LOVED this book when I was younger, but as I read it now I do feel differently about it. The moments the tree and the young boy share are truly magical, while the older years are so sad with the tree giving and giving and the boy always taking and taking.

At the very least this is a book that's sure to start a conversation for all ages. Illustrations are line drawings in black and white.

Great for all ages. My kids loved it.
