The fanfic was better. There is no reason for the FMC to get over her qualms with the MMC's lack of issue with murder. Even if he no longer works for the evil people, he is still an adult who kills first and asks questions later, whereas she heals first and asks questions later. The mystery is barely introduced by the end of the first book and we are still no closer to healing this man. I understand that this was part one of a duology but I didn't feel like they made this first book enough of its own story to bother standing it apart from the latter other than the sheer length of the book. The fantasy system is confusing and isolated, the sections between POV switches last too long, and there isn't enough stability in the story to make it feel lived in.

I actually finished this book just so I could confirm it had absolutely zero depth. There is almost no backstory or intricacies to either main character and the side characters are almost non existent. The world is crazy messy. Like… I don’t think I even have words to describe how every single thing in this book is entirely surface level at best and nonsensical at worst.

Only read if you think dick and piss jokes every other page are the pinnacle of comedy.

DID NOT FINISH: 7%

I have the worst attention span, I knew from reading the first page I wouldn't finish this book and by the end of the first chapter I'd had enough. I feel like I've betrayed all the book community, but this just was not for me. The plot was meh and the characters are just not likeable. Or maybe I'm just a miserable old fart. The only irresistible urge I had was to close this book.
