An easy-to-read YA fantasy that was predictable for the most part.
especially if you know you're not getting a hero story.
I am curious as to where things will go from here, though.

One of the best reads that i've read in my whole reader life. Romanian review to come soon...

I tried, but I just couldn't finish this book.
About halfway through, I decided to stop. The only thing I was doing while reading was rolling my eyes.
I might have liked it if I read it when it first came out.

I absolutely loved this book I couldn't put it down. The story is utterly brilliant I can't wait to carry on to the second one.

this book has been out a whole FOUR YEARS and still NOONE has recommended it to me in that time. im quite hurt tbh.

(just kidding, love you all)

okay but seriously???? i loved this a lot??? if i'd have to give a quick description i guess i'd describe it as the darkest minds meets shadow and bone, but really, this book is a lot more. there are sooo many morally crey characters who are maybe the good guy? maybe not? and i love ittttt. bc although i love supperheroes, the heroes vs villains story can sometimes be quite exhausting, cause the world just isnt that black and white. its lots of messy, grey people all doing what they think is right, and this book perfectly reflects that to me. on to the sequel! (hopefully. if i have it.)

“We are not supposed to exist, Adelina. We were never meant to be. We are mistakes.”

3.5 Stars

I grew to enjoy this book, in the beginning I did not think I was going to like it because the writing seemed like it did not have much depth besides when talking about the background of the main character. I did love that the main character was an innocent young girl who ends up being an antihero/villain. I feel that in YA fantasy books, most of them are not told in the perspective of this type of character. I also was pleased with how it ended, it made me excited to read the next book. Marie Lu in this book is not scared to end in a way that may make some readers mad because it is unexpected. I feel that this makes the book more interesting to read because it is not predictable like some YA fantasy books tend to be.

The one thing this story lacked is a deep romance. Yes, there is some romance in this book, but like I said before it did not really have much depth it just out of nowhere happened and then just as quickly ended.

With all of that being said, I am excited to start the next book in this trilogy, The Rose Society.

i'm kind of disappointed but i will be reading the sequel to see if it's better
