Its not that simple getting into this big complicated universe, but once you are into it, it doesn't let you go! Gripping and fascinating. A sci-fi epos!

I'll be the first to admit that this won't be for everyone. You are dropped unceremoniously into an incredibly complex society with intricate language and a thoroughly puzzling and complicated mystery to unravel that takes off under your feet, but the way the story unfolds is fascinating. It's a space opera to the core, but filled with commentary on identity and imperialism.

It took me a few chapters, maybe 50 pages, to finally settle into the style, the pace, the unfamiliar words, but once I did... This is a stunning work of political linguistic fiction. It plays lightly with romance subplots, while it weaves an incredible story about a world where the language is the culture. I thoroughly enjoyed sinking into this one, a chapter at a time, and I look forward to book 2 next year.
