I can’t say no to a cute book cover, and this was no exception. Plus, I saw that this was written by Melina Marchetta so I just had to check it out.
This was the first book in the ‘What Zola Did’ series. Each day brought a different adventure! On this first day, the topic was on garden, environment, family and past memories.
This was a great story about taking responsibility and learning consequences. It was also a reminder that a place could have a ‘past’ as people kept their memories with them their entire lives. It was a great way of honouring those memories.

Relatable characters navigating everyday life and grief, Zola does her best but sometimes ends up making a bit of a mess! Loved the casual inclusivity featured in the story and illustrations, and the little teaching moments about environmental issues like the importance of conserving water. A sweet and seemingly small story that manages to cover quite a lot of ground.

Read this cute little story for work, before I pass it along to my niece & nephew.
