I absolutely adored this book!! The plot was intense and interesting, the world building was excellent, but the characters were what really made this book shine. Each of the characters are complex individuals with interesting backstories and the dynamics between each of the different main 6 characters are very fun and different. The main cast of characters are incredibly diverse, with two of the characters having disabilities (Kaz has a bad leg that he uses a cane for and Wylan has dyslexia), two people of colour (Jesper is half-Zemeni and Inej is Suli), two characters with ptsd (Inej and Kaz), two characters struggling with addiction (Jesper has an addiction to gambling and
Nina becomes addicted to Jurda Parem
), three characters who are LGBTQ+ (Nina and Jesper are bisexual and Wylan is gay), a character who is very religious (Inej), a well-portrayed fat character (Nina) and two incredibly well written female characters (Inej and Nina), and that is not even mentioning how complex and interesting these characters are. I highly recommend this book to everyone!

“Joost had two problems: the moon and his mustache.” pg 1

Plus sized, disability, mental illness, queer, and poc rep? *starry eyed emoji* yes pleaseeee!!
Loved the relationships between the characters. Inej and Nina are such bad*sses.
I thought the pacing was nice and kept my attention. The world building is confusing which is why I read Shadow and Bone first.

Reread Review: On a reread, this book is even more impressive. Leigh's character work is so pitch perfect, that you immediately understand each character's motivations and drive, even more so than those that popped up in the Grisha trilogy. Kaz, Inej, Jesper, Nina, Matthias, and Wylan have become so beloved over the years for a reason and revisiting this book really reminded me why so many people (including myself) came to love them in the first place. It also helps that this book's plot is tight and propulsive, no extra fat here. The pacing is full throttle, breakneck speed of plot twists so marvelous that you'd think Leigh herself is one of the Crows. This book is a modern classic and deserves its place as such.

OG Review: This book blew me away. The characters were phenomenal and the plot was almost Sanderson-style intense with the amount of insanity and character-driven emotional-wreck inducing panic. I don't know if I can really say much without spoiling. Honestly though, go pick this book up, you will DEVOUR it :D
