Leigh Bardugo’s writing was just amazing. Her world building was incredibly detailed and she made all of the characters come to life in such a beautiful way. The characters were what made the book so amazing.

“A gambler, a convict, a wayward son, a lost Grisha, a Suli girl who had become a killer, a boy from the Barrel who had become something worse.”

I tried to get into this book without having an opinion in advance, as it gets hyped a lot. But I was amazed.
Each of the characters have their own ambitions and chances are high you’ll like at least one of them. For me, I enjoyed them all. They all have led different lives but still ended up together in a way that made sense and wasn’t too farfetched.
Also, I liked the little mentions of things that happened in the Shadow and Bones trilogy two years prior.
Nothing major or that important to the plot, but it was a nice touch.
There might be a lot of new terms at first but once I got into it, it wasn’t that hard to follow.
The different emotions in the scenes were balanced well. Sometimes dark, funny, tense, sad, maybe even a little bit of hope for some of the characters sometimes. It made the book easy to get through and gripping.
Couldn’t put it down and I am starting with the second one right away.

“She wouldn't wish love on anyone. It was the guest you welcomed and then couldn't be rid of.”

I started reading in the mornings and that helps me to read more so i finally finished it.
I liked the setting and the story so much more than the shadow and bone series, however reading the series back-to-back I'm starting to be tired of this world and kinda cannot wait to go back to some other worlds and stories. Luckily I only have one more book ahead of me.
