I really enjoyed delving into this biography, which considers Lincoln's story from the standpoint of what he would have known (and when) and how that influenced his life and decisions. The author leaves the judgments of history out of this book for the most part and concentrates on letting Lincoln's story unfold year by year. Well worth the time.

This book is a classic - the seminal biographical work on Lincoln.

This is the longest audiobook I've read thus far. Frankly, I feel lied to by every American History teacher/professor I've ever had. Lincoln was so much more than the 13th Amendment and so much...less. He may have been a great man, but he was not a great president. His administration was a constant shitstorm, he was not popular, he was not educated (not to say he wasn't intelligent, he was incredibly so, but he knew nothing about politics). He sort of bumbled along in a dignified way. His wife was a terror and his kids were spoiled to high heaven.

There's just so much here that I've never thought of, or never thought to question. I will definitely be reading more presidential history in the coming year.
