Dark Places is, in my opinion, this author's best novel. It is creepy yet sad, while still throwing you for a loop at every chance. It's been a little while since I've read it and I may have to reread before I write a more in-depth review.

This was a fun read but not as flooring as Gone Girl or Sharp Objects. I enjoyed it a little extra with all the local reference to my hometown and state. The story is different than other mysteries and thrillers I’ve read. Set in two timelines in rural Kansas for the murders and the Greater Kansas City area for most of the more current story. Told from a variety of character perspectives.

I read this book about 10 years ago and it still sticks with me. Brilliantly tense and intriguing

This was an amazing read. I'd previously seen adaptations of Gillian Flynn's Sharp Objects and Gone Girl, so I knew I'd probably like it. But the writing is so detailed, it was fantastic. I felt like I was living in the filth and squalor, like I could understand Libby's odd character traits and views on life, or Ben's anger and hatred. It's such a vivid world where not many people are thriving. The writing feels immediate and shameless. The mystery unfolds really nicely. In the final half every chapter reveals something that makes me understand why the Kill Club are so into this case.
I will definitely read more of her books, I really wish I hadn't seen the sharp objects miniseries which I love, so I could go into the book blind, but I'm sure it will be good anyway.
Side note: I googled this book after I read it and saw that there's a movie adaptation and it looks so wronggg - the casting is horrible, everyone looks so clean(!) and pretty. Don't think I'll watch it.
