i don’t normally rate anything i read for class but this short story made me cry. this is the first james baldwin story i ever read and it won’t be the last. shout out mrs G who had to watch me break down crying over this assigned reading in class

I’m giving this five stars because in the midst of a reading slump this story made me feel something, prodded (a little crack in my soul?) and made me freaking cry. Deeply feeling, his prose is profound in a very simple, alluring way, with meaning in every word. Man you didn’t have to surprise me like that

I read this for a class and thought it would be one of this boring, useless reading and how wrong I was, I don't know how but this story touched something in me and I loved it.
