The twists and turns in this kept me reading. There are references to The Princess Bride but this is its own story. I'm looking forward to book two.

This book started incredibly slowly and at times it was hard to push through but then…towards the end, things started to really pick up the pace and the end was absolutely amazing. Loved it. Glad I read it!

This book is inspired by the Princess Bride, which I am ashamed to say I have only watched once, despite it being an amazing film. When I heard this book described as a gender swapped Princess Bride, I knew instantly I had to read it, and I’m so glad I did. This book was feminist to its very core, and I absolutely adored Amarande as a strong female lead. This book was action packed, full of adventure and political intrigue, some of my favourite things in a fantasy novel. The romance was sweet and beautiful and Luca may have earned a spot on my long list of book boyfriends. This book had everything that I love and I am very excited to read the rest of the series!

How dare you promise me a story inspired by The Princess Bride and yet completely leave out the humor-inconceivable!

You know what bothers me most about this being a princess bride retelling? That the bad guy is the one saying "as you wish" ...ummm excuse me. I don't think so.

They switched the roles of Buttercup and her love. She is the fierce warrior and her love is just a sweet kindhearted lad, but he has a secret. While the first third of the book I could write off being a bit slow because it's the first book in a series, but by two thirds of the way in some of the information just felt useless. The last third of the book tho finally got going it made me want to immediately pick up the second one (and good thing because I have the arc

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4/5

I have a lot of thoughts and feelings about this book. I honestly didn’t love it until about halfway through, and then I couldn’t put it down!! Not sure if part of that is due to reading it in bits and pieces, but the last half was thrilling and twisty and turn-y. You can definitely read this book if you haven’t seen The Princess Bride, but if you have seen it, there are a ton of Easter eggs that are delightful.

I loved Princess Amarande, a strong badass female protagonist is my JAM, and I love all of her tactical and fight skills. She’s so incredible.

I absolutely did not expect the end and was shocked at parts tbh, but I am thrilled there is going to be a second book because I NEED MORE!!!!

I received an eARC of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I’m between 3.5 and 4 stars on this one. This is a pretty strong adaptation of The Princess Bride that is far more fantasy than comedy. If you’re not a fan of the original, I would still give this one a try—conversely, if you’re die-hard fan of the film or book, skip it.

I love how strong Princess Amarande as a character, though her lack of real-world fighting abilities was confusing. I also enjoyed Luca’s way of observing and taking in the world. As predicted, Luca and Amarande fall in love instantly; I could have used more depth and descriptions about their relationship beyond Ama wanting to kiss him all the time. Nonetheless, I enjoyed them, and the side characters (especially Ula) were fleshed out well.

I would be remiss if I left out the frustrating cliffhanger; if you’re looking for a stand-alone YA fantasy, this isn’t it.
