3.5 AVERAGE

This book was not what I thought it was going to be. By the description of book, I thought it would be much darker. I was pleasantly surprised. It turned out to be more of a NA college book which are the kind that I love in the beginning. This story was definitely suspenseful and had that feeling of looking over your shoulder. I just adored Kenzie and her innocence. She grew up sheltered away from the real world at the hands of "The Society" cult. She gets out into the real word and has to learn about the Current Events, technology and slang. She made me laugh as she tried to understand that the things people say aren't always what they mean. This book really had it all in terms of suspense, laughs, romance and interesting characters.

This was my first leap into Kristin Mayer's writing. As I began, I realized that I had embarked upon an unexpected story, one that takes me out of my reading comfort zone.

I was undecided about this journey as I navigated the first few chapters. However, as the story progressed and the direction became more clear, I was fully committed and in desperate need to know what was going to happen to the characters.

Whispered Promises was previously released under another title, Dissipated, but the author extended the story and gave it an overhaul to add more quality and depth to it. I had not read the original version, but this final version was one I won't soon forget.

It's an interesting blend of suspense, romance and unearthing secrets. The reader is left to guess along with the heroine as she begins piecing things together about her past and the present day. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this story. I don't usually read outside my comfort zone, so it was a nice change of pace to read a story that gets your heart pumping harder for more than just romantic reasons.

I would definitely recommend this read!

★★★✩ 3.5 lost stars read!

When I first read the synopsis of this book admittedly it was something I typically would not read but took a chance on something different and out of the norm for me.

The first part was a little bit challenging for me to read getting to know who is who in this clan lifestyle of living but as familiarity of the outside world come into play it became easier to follow the storyline and a book that had me intrigued.

Kenzie Brooks (a.k.a. Sarah) life was filled with one lie after another thanks to The Society that she was brought up in. Before the passing of her mom she whispered last words that throws her daughter off guard which in turn shortly after is faced with a do it now or regret it later decision.

Following the letter she enters into a world that was a huge eye opener for Kenzie. Not knowing anything other what she was taught she had to adjust and do it quickly without making her look naive and lost that she really is. Unexpectedly she meets people that would become more than she had expected; however, will her lies change the way they think of her when the truth finally comes out?

This is my first book by Kristin Mayer and regardless of the theme of this read (entailing life in a cult) the author did not disappoint. She has written it in a way to open our eyes to other lifestyles of living that can possibly exist that we may not be aware of and because of that factor I am open to reading more of her books and see what else she has up her sleeves. This may not be a favorite theme of mine to read but the feels she gave me had me turning the pages and seeing how everything will play out in the end.
