"but nothing you ever understand will be sweeter, or more binding,/ than this deepest affinity between your eyes and the world."
the bittersweet passing of time. full of animals and people you love. reciprocity of the earth. greed of people. keeping your head locked on a tree even after the bird has flown away. grazing your hands across rocks. morning light. the burn of the sun in the middle of your back. what the wind carries with it. the bliss of being ignored by nature. time moves in circles.
"it is what i was born for-/ to look, to listen,/ to lose myself/ inside this soft world-/ to instruct myself/ over and over/ in joy,/ and acclamation."
"if you have ever gone to the woods with me, i must love you very much."

I knew some of these poems would absolutely devastate me and they did. Others I found less compelling, but such is the nature of a poetry collection. I will recommend Mary Oliver’s work for the rest of my life.
