The ending felt rushed and too many questions were left unanswered.

Absolutely god awful. Pacing was horrendously slow. I can’t count how many times the other chose to “tell” rather than “show” by writing page long anxieties from Lucas’ point of view, as if we didn’t already know what he’s going through. I don’t need to read his worries about his daughter, ex wife, and future career 50 times.

Also, “Clover. Because Chloe is over.” Is maybe the worst thing I’ve ever read.

Needlessly long. Repetitive. Creepy enough but meh.

I received this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Ania Ahlborn has been on my radar for some time. A number of her books were given great reviews by some of my friends, so I kept meaning to pick up one of her books, but I never did. So when I saw this book on Netgalley I jumped at the chance to read this and was thrilled when I was approved.

I was in the mood for a good horror and this book did not disappoint.

Lucas Graham is a writer, whose live is falling apart. His career is is going nowhere and his marriage is ending, so when he receives a promising letter from convicted murderer Jeffrey Halcomb to get an exclusive story. In exchange for the story, all he needs to do is live in the house where 10 people were found dead. So he packs up his life and moves across the country, bringing his daughter with him. But as strange things start to happen, it seems the line between the past and the present is being blurred.

I had a hard time putting this book down. The story was interesting, and while it did progress rather slowly at the beginning, it quickly found its footing creating a creepy ghost story.

While this isn't the scariest horror I've ever read, there were moments that did give me chills, and I really did enjoy it.

A great read for a rainy day.

lemme start this off by saying i LOVE ania ahlborn’s books. i recommend fans of horror to read her books constantly … however , this book kinda missed the mark for me.

it was just overly long i feel like and coulda been shortened up quite a bit. i felt she repeated things a bit too often (but who am i too judge haha).

although i wouldn’t reread this book , i still think it’s better than most horror i read ! 3/5

cool story but seemed realllllyyy drawn out after a while and kind of dragged on as it progressed

True crime writer Lucas is in the midst of a years long writing slump and his marriage is imploding. So when Jeffrey Halcombe, a Manson-esque cult leader from the early 1980s, breaks his decades-long silence to offer an exclusive set of interviews from prison, Lucas uproots goth tween Vee and moves across the country to the Washington house where the cult spent its final months. As he struggles to rekindle his career and repair his relationship with Vee, he tries to ignore the increasingly strange, seemingly supernatural events that begin to occur.

Awesome setup for a story, right? And yet, it dragged. Badly. This probably would have been a DNF, but I really liked Ahlborn's The Bird Eater, and I thought Seed was amazing. I hung in there continuously hoping this one would wow me. It was about 150 pages too long, and stuffed with too much that didn't really enhance the suspense or the impact of the story. By the time the twists and the heavy ghost activity arrived, I had already lost interest, so it didn't hit the way it should have. This story had so much potential, but really missed the mark for me.

I received this book from Gallery in exchange for an honest review.

I loved Seed and liked The Neighbors. This was somewhere in between for me. I loved the first 80% of it. Extremely effective build up of tension and great job of going back and forth between the past and present. I really got a feel for both settings and the characters. The ending didn’t really hold my attention as much, not sure why. I still would recommend to any horror/suspense fan.
