She could have gone a little deeper with a lot of the concepts, but it was a good, fairly spooky read.
Wish we'd gotten a little more of an investigation to flesh out the cult stuff.

It took me a quite a while to get into the story, the characters were all annoying and rather problematic and the plot really fell short. I really liked the concept of this book but it could have been executed a lot better in my opinion.

I keep expecting Ania Ahlborn to have at least one bad book, but I haven’t found it yet. She absolutely crushes the Cult horror genre with Within These Walls. It is terrifying but not in your face, it’s more about the slow inevitable crawl towards certain doom. Like most of her books this isn’t a feel good story. It’s heartbreaking, and with my recent title of father, certain aspects hit extra hard. I loved the whole set up of this book, and the multiple timelines we as the reader navigate. The ability of cult leaders to completely manipulate people to commit horror acts has always fascinated me, and Ania knocks that aspect out of the park with Jeffrey Holcrum. If you don’t mind depressing books and love true crime and cults I can’t imagine being disappointed with this book.

After Brother, I was very excited to read more from Ania Ahlborn, but this definitely fell flat for me.
