One of those books you definitely have to re-read. Funny and weird. Definitely felt a bit too quirky at some points. Loved the little crumbs you recognised from Big Swiss.

Loved this!! I didn’t realise it was the second book in a series (hence the 0.25 markdown) but it read really well as a standalone.

The story was very dark, but Mona was such an interesting character and her matter of fact internal dialogue made it v funny to read. She’s an adult for all intents and purposes (her age/ job/ relationships/ substance use) but her mind is so simplistic and childlike, you can’t help but warm to her.
. This could have been a result of abuse in her youth, so I wish we could have found out what she had been through- but in the same breath I loved that it was left ambiguous and you never really found out all the details- it’s much like relationships in reality.
The ending was so tense and I really thought Dark was going to kill her, so I hope she got away from him!!! I don’t think I’ll be able to get mona out of my head for a while, but I love that in a book

This sequel could stand alone as its own story, but the plot is rather boring in comparison to Pretend I'm Dead. The clients Mona meets feel beyond redemption and 3/4 of the novel is made up of flashbacks to Mona's tragic backstory. The last 1/4 of the book picks up. However, I don't mind the pacing because I love Mona's observations and eccentricities. I could listen to her weird stories all day
