This book grabbed my heart by its reins and took over. The descriptions of Smitha's situation, surroundings, and her feelings were beautifully rendered and did a great job of enveloping me fully during certain portions, like when
Death hurts her -- I legit wanted to get up and throw some chairs, I was so angry -- and really all of Smitha's interactions with Death. He just grossed me out so much from the very beginning. And don't get me started on THE STALKER Mordan because that's all he was. If Smitha was a spoiled brat, Mordan was a controlling asshole who can't take no for an answer.

There were times when I thought the book was lacking in description, like when
Smitha talks about her worst time during her frosty life when she almost gives in to Death.
The way that scene was set up, it felt like something huge had happened but it was all anticlimactic - not enough details were provided to really reel me in and feel what Smitha fell -- I don't think the scene captured what it tried to convey well.

I absolutely loved how the Smitha-Lo relationship developed and was totally enraptured by it. I liked seeing how Smitha changed throughout the book, even when she was just traversing the land and was merely surviving.
The book did a great job of conveying the chilliness of the whole situation. I'll definitely be adding this to my comfort reads pile and checking out some of Charlie's other books.
