I read this because I happened to find a copy in my possession and several people had told me it was good. And, I will confess, I did like it, and I do intend to continue the series. The concept was great, and many of the stories of the Bible were well translated.

However, I felt like the author was trying to cram too much into too little space, and some of it felt forced, causing me to loose connection with the book. Also, it employed an opening method that annoys me, so that made it hard to get into the book.

But I do like Leinad's name. Daniel spelled backwards - genius!

Kingdom’s Dawn is a great, purposeful story for kids. The allegorical elements force you to think. I appreciate its honesty about life, and continuous action keeps the pages turning.

First of all: this is a very bad book. The characters are bland, the fantasy names sound incredibly made up, the pace is super fast, it’s hard to be immersed, and the Christian layer leaves nothing to the imagination.

Second of all: I love this series. Yes, the book is horrible, but as a young child I loved it. This was one of my favourite series. It made the stuffy Old Testament feel alive and adventurous to me, and the stories unforgettable.

Would I recommend? Not for you, but definitely for your child.

Book still sucks tho.

This allegorical fantasy was very well written. I'm looking forward to read the other books in this series soon.

I’ve heard a lot of controversy on Chuck Black’s writing over the years, so I finally read one of his books for myself.

My thoughts…
-It is a fantasy book with *some* magic, namely two types of creatures described (If that counts as magic.) No magical powers or things like that.
-It has a biblical allegory feel to it, covering biblical themes and stories from the Garden of Eden to the time of Moses.
-It is definitely intended for younger audiences. While I held my attention, it wasn’t necessarily my favourite book in this kind of genre.

Overall, this book teaches some great lessons and would be enjoyed by young readers! I can’t speak to what kind of magic may be in the rest of the series or in other books of his, but as for this book, I found the controversy rather unfounded, in my opinion, but everyone may feel a little different. :)
