I'm still really into the female retellings of Greek mythology, so I really enjoyed this book. It was maybe a bit too scattered among so many characters, I think I would have preferred more books with more focus and background though. I particularly enjoyed Andromache (her last scene with her son broke my heart) and Cassandra.

This book is so beautiful and so important. The women from these myths are often ignored side characters. Haynes gives them life, without trying to gloss over their awful circumstances.

I really enjoyed this, but at the same time, I left with a slight feeling of just being unsatisfied - maybe to me it just felt a little unfinished, like there wasn't enough time spent for me to really get into it and fall in love with these characterizations. In addition there were some segments that weren't as compelling - for example, as snarky and witty as Penelope's letters got, it didn't prevent her segments from just feeling like "exposition girl" where she just has to explain things that happened off screen. This also happened a few times with Cassandra narrating her visions.
Either way, I still really enjoyed the book and recommend it!

Longtime fan of the Iliad and the other Greek Classics, so this was up my alley. I enjoyed the depiction of the stories of the women of the Trojan war. The one exception being Penelope’s chapters- those were more about Odysseus than her and I felt like they threw off the flow of the book.
