a perfect book. in each story, the author captures stories that are seemingly ordinary, but are so damn familiar within immigrant households.

I didn't think I liked short stories until I read this book. Lahiri has a gift for creating full vibrant characters and a compelling story in just a few pages. A truly lovely book.

gorgeous, quiet, understated, devastating.

I really enjoyed Lahiri’s writing style and I enjoyed the short stories. But I am not a fan of short stories lol. I’ll definitely read on of her novels

I’m a little late to the game with this book, seeing as it won the Pulitzer over 20 years ago. This is an incredible short story collection. I loved every single story. Heartbreaking, hopeful, and immersive. Lahiri is officially now on the short list of my favourite writers.

You can tell from this book that [author: Jhumpa Lahiri] is a great author, but this collection of short stories left me wanting more. She clearly has the poise to develop her characters, but here I felt like I was just getting to know them when I was dragged on into some new story. I will definitely go on to read her other books though.

I read this one or two stories at a time so I could savor and contemplate each. Lahiri is a poignant, incredible short story writer. Her stories are beautiful, sad, and always make me think about human relationships and their complexities. She can capture so many emotions in few words.

I did enjoy Unaccustomed Earth more, but both books are absolutely worth reading.

beautiful writing with sad slice-of-life stories. I wish I had only read one story per day so I could have made the book last longer.

Deserving of its Pulitzer for the first story alone, which is one of those rare perfect short stories that pack a punch stronger than any novel.

i love an unpopular opinion, but...

i have to admit this just is as good as everyone says it is.

that's the review.
