I had forgotten how nice short stories can be when they are well-written. I tend to shy away from collections such as this because I fear that the stories will lack the substance and depth of a novel, but that is not the case with Interpreter of Maladies. Some stories were better than others ("A Temporary Matter", "Sexy", and "The Third and Final Continent" were my favorites), but all were worth reading.

I have never read fiction like Lahiri's. If you want to completely become immersed into the lives of fictional characters for a few pages, look no further.
Beautiful stories but I don’t know that I appreciated them enough tbh
4.5 stars. A great collection of 9 short stories mostly about the Indian American experience. All of the stories were high quality, but “A Temporary Matter” was the best one in my opinion. “The Third Continent” , “Mrs. Sen’s” and “Interpreter of Maladies” also stood out. All of the stories dealt with loneliness and the longing to connect in some form. Some were tragic, some had happy endings, and all were realistic representations of humanity and it’s struggles.
Di questo libro ho apprezzato la grazia con cui è scritto, che ne rende la lettura scorrevole, piacevole e conferisce un tantino di eleganza nonostante la semplicità. Purtroppo ho trovato le storie solo poco più che gradevoli e, a parte un paio di casi, mi hanno sfiorato solo a livello intellettuale ma non mi hanno provocato emozioni degne di nota. A conti fatti questo libro mi lascia quasi indifferente.
