I think I'm interested in continuing the series because I'm invested in the world, but I do have some issues with it. My biggest concern is with a seemingly white author writing a black main character and trying to bring in race issues from their perspective. As far as I can tell, from the version I read there's nothing in the author's note about getting input from sensitivity readers or anything like that. And I didn't love the way the author kept describing the MC's skin color as "caffe latte", as it felt like something that could be offensive (and if not it was still used enough to be obnoxious. The only other descriptor was mocha. Can we use something other than coffee terms?) Other than that I didn't notice anything specifically problematic, but I'm not an expert.

[b:Heart of Stone|18139089|Crash into Me (Heart of Stone, #1)|K.M. Scott|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1372552474l/18139089._SX50_.jpg|25482805] was not a bad book, but did not particularly fly, either. The basic storyline was entertaining, as was the world building. Where the story really fell flat for me was characterization and themes.

The two main characters seemed far too changeable. Their attitudes and behaviors were inconsistent over extremely short periods of time.

The themes were more consistent, but did not hold together particularly well. The commentary on race and the attempt to extend it to species was especially a stretch.

Actually pretty enjoyable even though I did find some of it to be a bit predictable and made a little bit of fun of some of the cheesiness. :) Otherwise, a pretty entertaining read for a lazy weekend.

This is exactly the book I needed! Gargoyles are criminally underrated in fiction and fantasy, so this was everything I wanted to read. It had humour, action, lore, and charming characters bantering with one another.

Margrit is a fun character with sass for days, and for the most part I found her to be a strong, unconventional lead who is tough, but not a hardened warrior or anything. That said, she made some questionable choices, and the book showed its age at some points. I found Alban to be complicated as well, and despite his awkward opening, I did find myself wanting to know more about him. The supernatural side characters were interesting, especially Janx. I look forward to seeing how they play out in the future books.

I think the pacing was a little slower than I thought it might be and the romance seemed a little out of the blue, but this was the kind of book where I could just shut my mind down and have a good time. I like the gargoyle lore they were going with, and I hope that it is expanded on in the next few books. The ending seemed abrupt, but I am ready for more!

I throughly enjoyed this book. The plot had enough twists and turns to keep me interested but without becoming tedious. Highly recommend.

I thought this was an interesting read. The story follows Margrit, a lawyer who seems to enjoy being on the edge of danger, as she learns that her world might be more dangerous then she expected. Very early in the story we are also introduced to Alban, who as it turns out is a very old Gargoyle that has been keeping a close eye on Margrit. He noticed her apparently lack of fear and decided to be her "guardian angel." Unfortunately for him, the first chance he takes in talking to Margrit also causes him to become a suspect to a brutal murder in the park. He later convinces Margrit to help him prove his innocence so that the human population doesn't find out about not only the gargoyles but the rest of the Old Ones(Selkies, Vampires, Djinn, and Dragons) as well.
