YA mystery with a romance sub-plot? YESSS PLEASSSSSE!!!
i’m a sucker for the ‘teenagers thrown into dangerous situations’ trope, especially when there’s a good love triangle involved.
i had low expectations for this book but i was pleasantly surprised!! as someone studying forensic psych and a lover of criminal minds, i leech onto anything fbi related. i sort of saw the plot twist coming but it was satisfying nonetheless! the love triangle is truly everything i want. soft boy who openly expresses his feelings vs tough guy who’s too afraid he’ll hurt the protagonist. aside from the cheesy “i’m too broken for love” trope, and the fact that the series delves straight into her mothers case, it was a good read!! don’t expect anything mind blowing or deep but it was fun, interesting and overall very well rounded!

Cassie, our 17 year old FMC has a special skill of being a natural - someone who can read people just by looking at them. The skill has been somewhat unusable, until the FBI comes knocking, and recruits her for a special training program to delve into cold cases. When a new kill happens too close for comfort, the team is deployed to investigate before they are able to strike again. This one was fun and different! I appreciated the short chapters and fast pacing, and the cat vs mouse chase. The ending was out of control but it sure made me read it quick 😂 Excited to see where the rest of the series goes, and I hope we get some closure on what happened to Cassie’s mom.
