This book is not for the faint of heart. If Fifty Shades of Grey was too intense for your or if Christian Grey was too overbearing, then I suggest this isn't the book duet for you!!
This book is masterfully written. C.J. Roberts makes you absolutely love and hate Caleb with the impressive craftsmanship of her literary genius. Also, I swayed between utter dismay and anger towards Kitten but then would find myself rooting and finding strength in her character as well. This book is an emotional journey for sure!
When I first began reading romance novels, I normally read historical or regency romances where a majority of the plots centered upon "revenge: the hero kidnaps the daughter or niece of his enemy for revenge only to fall in love with the heroin instead". In this sense, I have no problem reading novels concerning kidnapping and overbearing males focused on revenge. However, I think this book seems more intense due to the reality of human trafficking actually occurring in the world today. The plot and background of the book, for me, seemed all to well based on the hardships of women and children striving to survive their own personal slave-ships. But, it is still possible (because I did) to get past this fact and become immersed into the story line.
Overall, the romance in this story is a dark emotional journey. It requires an open mind and forces you to understand. If physical brutality, kidnapping, slave-master domination and sex as a tool for conformity to rules is not up your ally, then I promise this book will offend you. It's surprising because I do not, in any sense, support or promote any of those things but I still really liked this book. It was haunting, dark and different. It was like nothing I have ever read; there is no norm, no routine and no expected turns of events. Its a emotional journey that leaves you wanting more, whether it be for them to be together or for Kitten to break free herself.

I have to stop reading disgustingly dark books that I find on random blogs online, they’re doing something fucked up to my brain
I really enjoyed the first 75% of this book, mainly because of the writing style, but the last 25% was kinda lost on me so idk… also the ending wasn’t my favorite…

I picked this up on a promo because it has been so successful. Around the middle it became repetitive and I couldn't work up much interest in either main character so I skimmed. It ends in a cliff-hanger.

I know so many people talk about how AMAZING this book was but I just.. it felt so .. eh for me. Like it wasn't anything amazing but it wasn't bad.

I just didn't feel like it lived up to the potential or the standards that everyone set. Nonetheless, I'm going to finish it because I'm curious as hell and maybe the last book will seal the deal for me :)

Just dumb. Would have been a DNF, but I was on a flight with nothing else to read.

“People often believed they were safer in the light, thinking monsters only came out at night.”
*** 5 beautifully disturbing stars ***
I'm still speechless, and still wondering if I'm a lunatic or something, because after reading this amazing train wreck, that I should probably be disgusted or something like that, but I'm not. I enjoyed reading it, really.
The sexual slave trade makes me sick, it's such a horrifying thing to do and experience. This book shows us the inside of this world this terrifying world, were humans have no humanity.
I should hate Caleb, I should, but I don't.
I still am a bit confuse about him.
Livvie inspires me, she is a brave, strong and admirable young woman, even when life punches her in the face, she still finds a way to stand up gracefully and face the other bad things that tomorrow may bring.
But life doesn't prepare you from something like this, something as wrong as this, something as right as this.
This book held me captive in the light, in the dark . Made feel like I was going to have a mental breakdown, made me feel twisted sensations that I thought could never feel.
A rollercoaster of emotions, not sweet emotions, because this book isn't sweet, not even close to that, it isn't the typical story of boy meets girl,
It's all shades of dark and perverse and... And makes you question your judgement, your values, everything.
I think this book is so so well written, it portrays a sad reality but so well portrayed. The characters, they're all unique, like this brilliant story.
It's written in two POV'S (Olivia and Caleb) that allowed us to understand better the characters and their feelings. I really liked that we could be inside of Caleb's and Olivia's head.
Caleb and Livvie broke my heart.
This story made me cry and made me sadly smile.
“This isn't a romance. You're not a damsel in distress and I'm not the handsome prince come to save you.”
I can assure you that you will not get bored reading this. However, if you're looking for a story about happily ever afters, with no violence, no disturbing situations, this isn't your story. I advice you to give it a chance, because stories like this one are meant to be heard and read.

“He was my tormentor and my solace; the creator of the dark and the light within.”
Caleb...

Livvie...

“The only way to truly be safer, was to accept the dark, to walk in it with eyes wide open, to be a part of it. To keep your enemies close.”
