Very thorough and informative guide to natural navigation. I’m not sure I’ll remember a lot of it, but I found the book interesting.

Read by the author.
This was interesting subject matter and the author has a lovely voice, pace and tone.
There is some wry humour in the writing. I would have liked the author to use pauses or vary hsi tone more when narrating to draw the listener into the joke. As a result I deduted half a star as, personally, I'd have liked more passion and humour in the reading.

I grew up idolizing pioneer trackers like Daniel Boone and Kit Carson, and I've always prided myself on the ability to find traces of trails long gone--whether they be road cuts or mine shafts in the mountains, or the straight paths through thick woods. One of my favorite pastimes is hiking at night, sans light with only the moon and the stars to light my way.

With that said, I know nothing. Tristan Gooley has composed here a master course in navigation and orienteering. Nature practically screams out directions, but only the most astute and observant can understand them. I learned how to use the moon and the stars to track my course, but I also learned why one side of my dirt road has more potholes than the other--and what that tells about direction.

This is a good read, and it will continue to stand as a valuable resource as I pursue future adventures.

I read this on a whim and without any real intention towards learning to navigate without instruments. I found a lot of information interesting but I didn't find the book very engaging.

For a non-fiction book full of stories and personal experiences, it was a rather bland read.

It was on my reading pile for long enough and I finally decided to not finish this book.

Not the best of book to listen to while driving as it is a hard topic to follow. Better use as textbook/reference book when you can actually sit down with pen and paper, taking notes, drawing some diagrams yourself so you can understand the positions of the sun, the moon, the stars, north, south, east, west.
The art of navigation is all about observing everything, and making deductions based on a good knowledge base.
