Lovely read that raises a lot of interesting ideas and questions. It doesn’t complete these thoughts the way a longer story might, but I still felt immersed in the roiling, changing world of The Seep.

I absolutely loved the book, it has some flaws, like not having enough pages, where I wished it would have been longer. Because I think the world could have been explored so much more! But all in all I just fell completely into the book and it was great reading it...

You ever read one of those books that you make you think, "What the hell did I just read?" Yeah, this is one of those – but in the best possible way. Even after reading the description I had no idea what to expect. This book made me all sorts of uncomfortable, but in a way that was enjoyable...? This is a very gritty, dark and bizarre look at what it means to be human. I highly recommend any sci-fi reader pick up this up!

A quick, immersive read for the Shirley Jackson fan who will go for some Ted Chiang if their enby beloved reads it aloud to them. RIYL Karen Russell, Carmen Maria Machado, and especially Helen Phillips.

THE SEEP is about pain, loss, grief, and the necessity of leaving space for sadness. The MC is trying to process her personal grief in a world which continually blunts the edges of pain and often totally erases sadness via the aliens which infect them. She fights to keep the messy parts of herself and doesn't understand why almost everyone else is content to lose that roughness. Her journey has a lot of messy stages which I don't want to spoil because part of the point of the story is that living through the moments without knowing how it'll end or if everything will be okay is important, and everyone needs the space to decide what they want, the freedom to make bad choices and learn from them.

Most of this book is aftercare and processing loss, and after reading it I feel sad but okay. It's a good kind of sad, and I really like the emotional arc of the book.
