There's two, maybe three good story's hiding in this. I'll tell you right now a spoiler, the Get's the big bad disease you read about in the blurbs, has NOTHING to do with the story. It's useless and could be excised, but that's the first good, wasted story idea. If this had been a character driven tale about the Gets, boy would I have given it five stars. The second good story is the Ambrosia, but it devolves into a mishmash of horror tropes. Together, it fails to land.

I feel... cold. And disturbed.

I will say this book is deeply disturbing, akin to A24's Midsommar. It is profoundly chilling, which is exactly what you want from a horror novel. The descriptions are graphic and take a distinct turn to the otherworldly and mystical -- do not expect hard science here.

Do not read if you are in a poor mental state. Please take the content warnings seriously.

Poorly written, very poorly written. Parts of the book going off to absolutely nowhere, nonsensical. Why stop the man from walking into the wall so he can walk to a different death instead? What kind of 8 year old girl calls herself a silly Billy with her Dolly? The depiction of classic 3rd world tropes despite a worldwide plague made me a bit "hmmm". On top of that I'm aware of the latter events in the book. I just don't like this author very much.
