I can honestly say this is one of only 2 books that I absolutely DID NOT see the twist coming at the very end. I was completely shocked.

4.5 but I rounded up, nothing like i've ever read before. I physically recoiled at some of the imagery. I enjoyed it

***3.5

I really wanted to like this book but it was a struggle. This book couldn't decide what it wanted to be. It was strange things, mixed with it, mixed with I know what you did last summer.... it was too much ask wrapped up in one.

Not one of my favorites.

I really didn't like this book. Felt like a wannabe It nowhere near as good. Couldn't connect with it at all.

YESSSSSS

man. what an excellent read. i swear. it’s like? i knew what was happening, but i also didn’t at all. every chapter answered questions but had me asking new ones at the same time, and i LOOOVVEEEEE that.

Enjoyable and just enough 90s nostalgia to set the scene without being overbearing. The story moves back and forth from present day to 1996 fluidly, and the pace of the plot worked very well. Some of the side characters felt like they could have been fleshed out a little better. Overall, this was a very enjoyable horror novel.

This one was fun, although I wouldn’t consider it horror, it’s incredibly surreal.

“Head Like A Hole” starts in the present, with our MC being cornered by a true crime podcaster about her boarding school roommate. It progresses with a talking head found in a bay, a fisherman in the wrong place at the wrong time, and a quest for vengeance. From there, it’s a wild ride with perfect references to the 90’s while also being a mixture of “Things from the Deep” and “X-Men”. We bounce back and forth between MC telling the podcaster her version of events , and a flashback narrative of what was actually happening.

While the book wasn’t exactly what I thought it would end up being, I’m pleasantly surprised with the turns it took and the way it ends. Definitely worth the time!
