Only character of color is an Asian woman who is depicted as a self hating math Asian and is the first to die. A tired trope. Her body is taken over by a white coded creature. There is no sign there is actual social commentary around it so it’s a trash choice.

This was a confusing read for me. There were some great horror moments, with shocking descriptions. I just didn’t ever feel hooked into this book - I never had the feeling I had to carry on.
The story was told from lots of different POVs which distracted me in parts. I don’t think some of the characters were deep enough for me to know them properly.
There was some great writing in this and I liked the style of it. For some reason it just didn’t impact me the way I wanted.

What the f did I just read. So good but definitely the most twisted horror I have read. Couldn’t put it down even when I had no idea what was going on

I could not put this book down! Absolutely loved the story, the horror was consistent and super fun to read. I feel like I could totally see this being a movie. Also- loved the ending! I really didn’t have too many theories but was still unexpected for me.

Tedious and constant 90s references. Plus still aimless after a quarter of the book.

i actually love aquatic horror imagery and radiation and all that. i just think the execution…could have been better. there were so many different characters and pov chapters that it was hard to get attached to the characters, which is what makes horror effective.

also, there were some bizarre geography errors. namely, the fact that someone would leave new bedford, stop in northampton for lunch, then go to new hampshire. there were a few others and they’re no big deal but they very much did distract me

DID NOT FINISH

Too many different timelines/storylines in the first 10+ chapters. There were no connection points or relevant characters to tie the pieces together.
