I read Head Like a Hole with no expectations, only hoping for a good fast paced horror, and I was well served! The intrigue was addictive. So full of twists and turns that you are constantly on the edge of your seat, dreading and waiting for what will happen next. I loved the 90s vibes, it really adds to the story and gives the whole book the perfect atmosphere.

The whole cast of characters was really good, if a bit forgettable. This book could have been a five star read, but the ending didn’t do it for me. It was unexpected, which is always a plus, but left too many threads hanging for my taste. Overall, a very fun read and the perfect summer horror while waiting for spooky season. I’ll definitely be reading more from this author.

⭐⭐⭐.25/5 stars

A strong beginning and ending, with a middle that is watery at best. The bodily horror in this was done very well, but the rest felt lacking in substance. The characters were difficult to connect with or even care about for how quickly they were rotated in and out, and the constant tongue-in-cheek 90s references were fatiguing at best.

Still, I greatly enjoyed Oksana in all of her weirdness, the symbiotic nature of her existence, and the revelation of how she even exists. I wish we got to see more of this - her Romani history, her "uncle" and his scientists, her relation to the Chernobyl disaster - instead of a revolving door of characters and a finale that served us up an info dump instead of actual tension.

Big fan of the ending and the twist on the final girl, I just wish it felt more earned.

A bit boring and had more than a few plot points that didn't amount to much.

This story went in a different direction than I expected. Well written and interesting concept! I really liked it and especially enjoyed the 90s references.
