The first part of this book was fine and engaging, but the second part actually lost me so bad - the battle scenes were extremely poorly written and the character development suffered from a lot of cliches. The world building is also sloppy, she makes a lot of assumptions about what readers will remember and it’s tiring to not understand several paragraphs. The ending I loathed and thought could have been way different. I will be curious if the author can turn it around in the next book because compared to the first book this one was honestly not worth my time…

This book was so much slower than the first! While I adore the characters. The pacing to me seemed off and I could not stand the miscommunication.

⭐⭐ (2 Stars)

This book was...meh. I enjoyed fourth wing it was a good read not the best but really not that bad, I'm honestly really disappointed in this book the first 200 pages were annoying because of Xaden & Violet just goddamn the miscommunication was SO ANNOYING. I found myself skimming through a lot of this book like is it just me or was the writing this bad in Fourth Wing and I just didn't notice it or what because it's pretty crappy in this one, also what is it with Rebecca Yarros' excessive use of the word eyebrows, like EVERY time someone was reacting or just if any description was given it was always the eyebrows she'd bring up WHICH I FOUND SO ANNOYING!!

Anyways this read was very disappointing if you couldn't tell. Will I continue reading this series/ trilogy or whatever it is??? I will most likely but my expectations will be very low.

Interesting beats, but it really didn’t need to be that long and the dialogue really isn’t great— the characters all sound way too homogenous even across different ages/cultures/statuses/jobs.
