I know people are really into this book but it’s just not my jam. I found this book felt insanely rushed. The pace was frantic and it felt ill thought out and just too hurried. I wanted slower lulls at times to process what was occurring. I also expected Violet to turn not Xaden. Also in the audiobook Solas sounds like Soulless which really changes my understanding. It was fine and a book but not my favorite.

My criticism of this series is the sometimes-cringey vocabulary and dialogue choices. The writing often feels like what I would put in a text to my best friend.

I also didn’t totally buy the interpersonal conflict in the romance plot-line in this book. There was definitely conflict, but something in that bit of the story fell flat for me.

Anyway, I’m still giving four stars because, like the first book in the series, this book was the perfect gripping, page-turning read.
