"bob says hello."

i am UGLY CRYING over a TITAN and a GIANT. rick riordan has the RANGE. i expected to leave this book emotional about the seven but instead i'm emotional over side characters that came out of nowhere and ended up owning my heart.

this was so good. nico and frank and jason and percy and annabeth and hazel and leo and piper..... my heart is full. my crops are watered. i'm very emotional about approaching the end.

The second to last sentence just tugs at those heartstrings like no one's business.

This book has the seven demigods of prophecy split in half. Percy and Annabeth find themselves in Tartarus, traveling across the deepest regions of Greek myth amidst monsters and rivers of fire. Their part of the story is harsh and unforgiving and possibly the darkest plotline Riordan has written so far in this series. Percy and Annabeth's pain, despair, and determination is felt the entire way.

The second group is a little more all over the place, but in ways that make sense. Leo ends up washed ashore on an island we've seen before, and he comes away from it differently. Frank starts accepting his paternity and grows as both a leader and, well, just grows literally. Jason is starting to understand where he truly belongs. Piper is again put to the test and succeeds in crazy ways with her charmspeak and her cornucopia. Hazel gets a crash course in magic, meeting Hecate and learning to control the Mist. Even Nico gets his time to evolve in this book, sharing parts of him we haven't seen before but make sense looking back.

Throughout all this the plot stays steady and the heroes are consistently put to the test. The stakes are higher in this series and everything that happens is much larger in scope. It's getting to the end now, and I'm excited to get to the final book. My reread of this series has been so much fun.
