I can't believe it took so long for me to actually decide to read this book.  Everyone i know has loved it, and i really enjoyed the TV series, but the read was MUCH better than anticipated.  I love that the book was even more feminist than the TV series.  And there was more 6:30.  What a genius character, with uncanny intelligence and self-doubt.  In my Book Club, we discussed book-inspired tattoos and inthis book I found my choice:

“The librarian is the most important educator in school. What she doesn't know, she can find out. This is not an opinion; it's a fact. Do not share this fact with Mrs. Mudford.”  Not that I am likely to get a tattoo anytime soon...

I did not expect so many laugh out loud moments, many of which were at the expense of Mrs Mudford (who turns out to be a little more likeable in the series.)
I will be recommending this to everyone I know who isn't also late to this party.

A beautiful and heartbreaking story of a woman dealing with the reality of being a female scientist in 1950s America. Elizabeth Zott is a highly complex character who I think many women can relate to, regardless of their profession or social skills. I highly recommend this read to any woman who wants to feel equally infuriated and empowered. I could not put this one down.

I would however encourage anyone interested in reading this book to check the trigger warnings, because some scenes in the book are incredibly intense and emotionally exhausting.

Please please please! Check the content warnings and know that all of them are prevalent in this book, but you think you can handle them PLEASE read this book.

Elizabeth Zott is an amazing character, and a survivor. She is the embodiment of female power and a force to be reckoned with.

The things Zott experiences in the work place are appalling and no one would call her personal life easy. In real life, a woman in Zott’s shoes wouldn’t be faulted for breaking down or giving up. But Zott doesn’t let anything stop her from reaching her goals. She goes on have a wonderful life in spite of the horrendous things she’s had to survive, because she is a survivor.

Parts of this book had me in tears while others had me fill with so much pride I thought I would burst. At its core, this book is about the strength and resilience of women and I can’t recommend it enough. This will be a book I won’t stop thinking about for a very, very long time.

i have to admit this book surprised me. i was not expecting to enjoy myself as much as i did. the story was both very funny at turns and also very serious. i enjoyed how much fun the author must have had writing some of the dialogue and setting up some of the scenarios in the story. the more fantastical elements of the story only enhanced the very real and dramatic parts of the story. it highlighted the absurdity of sexism in stem and other fields that serves to unfairly tilt the playing field and hinder societal progress on the whole. a great read.
