A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder follows a student who chooses a murder case from her hometown as the topic for her EPQ.

I read this novel within 6 hours. It was a really fast paced read and the story progressed nicely. The novel is averagely written, nothing ground breaking but is good for teenagers who are getting into reading. I also thought it was full of twists and turns and it had me hooked. The story never felt complicated or confusing and went over a lot of the same evidence to keep you focused.

Now the problems I have with this novel. The main character is the most annoying girl in the world. She reminded me a lot of a horse girl. You know the girls at school who would pretend to be horses? Yeah very much that. She says things like “holy pepperoni” and she’s supposed to be 16/17. The novel also had NO character descriptions whatsoever. You have no idea who anyone looks like apart from the sidekick Ravi who is Indian. Other than that, there was nothing. It’s also highly unbelievable this could be even considered for an EPQ project, yet alone signed off on. And if we’re being really critical here, her EPQ sucked because she was so chatty in it and swore in it? It’s a professional paper? What is going on here.

Overall, this book is good if you’re a teenager and you’re just getting in to reading. It’s giving my generation of John Green. I’d avoid it if you want a book with any kind of substance or in-depth writing.

Don’t bother - predictable

A Good Girl’s Guide To Murder exceeded my expectations. I couldn’t put it down from the moment I started it! I love how cute and bubbly Pip is. I formed a deep connection with the characters and I JUST HAD TO KNOW what was going to happen next and who the killer was. The plot was amazing and had me hooked until the very end. I will definitely be getting the sequel.

The book reminded me a lot of Pretty Little Liars and I highly recommend this book if you were a PLL fan. Although the book was MUCH BETTER, PLL could have definitely learned a thing or two from this book considering how terrible that show ended up.
