Sweet Enemy

Kristen Callihan

3.85 AVERAGE

I’ve been excited to try Kristen Callihan for awhile, so when I saw some of her audiobooks were on KU I snatched this book up. I’m unfortunately, a little disappointed. I didn’t really find anything wrong with this book. I even thought Emma and Lucian had a lot of chemistry. I also really enjoyed the chronic migraine rep in here. As someone diagnosed with chronic migraines, I felt very seen with the representation, and I loved how Emma was caretaking Lucian during his migraines.

But for some reason, besides the few things I enjoyed, I just found myself bored listening to this. I really had to make myself finish it. I think this is definitely a very “low-stakes, sweet” type of romance, and I just needed more meat in this book to fully enjoy it. I do want to try more from this author, as I thought the writing was decent, but I just don’t think this one was for me.

𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗯𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝘀𝗵𝗲'𝗱 𝗽𝘂𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗺𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵, 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗺𝗼𝗮𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗽𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝗵𝗲'𝗱 𝗺𝗮𝗱𝗲, 𝗵𝗮𝗱 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗺𝗲. 𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝘂𝗰𝗸, 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝗺𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝘀𝗼 𝗯𝗮𝗱𝗹𝘆 𝗺𝘆 𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗸.

Sweet baby Jesus. Mouthwatering desserts, banter, laughs and scorching romance, this book was a feast for my heart and soul!

Told from the POV's of Lucian, grumpy ex hockey player and Emma, sunshine in a bottle and recently got axed from a TV series. Both find themselves at Rosemont estate to lick their wounds. What they didn't expect to find was healing, friendship and love. This book has some great side characters and LOL dialogue too. Sal stole the show!

"𝗕𝗲𝗲𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗵𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘆, 𝗘𝗺." 𝗜 𝗻𝘂𝗱𝗴𝗲𝗱 𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻, 𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗲𝗻𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗸 𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝗾𝘂𝗲𝗮𝗸 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗮 𝗹𝗮𝘂𝗴𝗵. "𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘀𝗲𝗲𝗺 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘂𝗽𝗼𝗻 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗲 𝘀𝘄𝗲𝗲𝘁."

Their chemistry is a charcuterie board of tension, indecision, -asm's and a pinch of begging. And oh the French pastries Mr. Grump would craft for Emma made my heart full. I was so patiently waiting for this pot to boil over! Turn.It.Up! How does that saying go? If you can't handle the heat, get out of the kitchen? Umm... Imma stay! Oh, and that epilogue. Ooowee, that's a lot of cream!

“𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝘄, 𝗵𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘆𝗯𝗲𝗲,” 𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝘂𝗿𝗺𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗱. “𝗧𝗿𝘆 𝗺𝘆 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗺.”

DID NOT FINISH

DNF at 25%. Jess at WHEN IN ROMANCE listed this as one of her top romance reads for the first half of 2021, which made me pick it up But it's utterly conventional, features empty characters, and is bland as heck. Not for me.

Okay kinda forgot to write a review when I finished this, but I loved this

Brooding ex-hockey player with a penchant for baking meets a Hollywood starlet needing time away from the public after a horrible break up and getting axed from her show. This was a cute story, and the cast of supporting characters was also great. It was full of fun banter, adorable nicknames, steamy love scenes and lots of yummy treats. Really enjoyed Emma and Lucian's story.
