I’m enjoying this series and it’s pacing as the books continue.

One thing I’ve noted is how much the dialogue has changed from book one, where at the start it was very hard to get through with the terminology being “fml” and such dated abbreviations that I thought would continue to date the series. But as the characters suffer more and more they become more grounded and serious. The current pop culture references are still prominent and I find pulls me out of the story rather than more into it, though it is less common than before.

I had been routing for Hudson in this book because I find there was way more connection and chemistry between him and Grace than Jaxon and grace. There is also a lot more understanding between them, so when they ended up together I was very happy. Finding out that the mating bomb between Grace and Jaxon was manufactured had me stunned but I’m not sure about how I feel about it, I don’t think it’s a cop out but I think what Wolff should have done was never make them mates if she wasn’t going to make them endgame. Just a thought.

Also grace being so ready to break her mating bond to fix her one with Jaxon had me frustrated, like it is very obvious that her and Jaxon was not going to work anymore and I was tired of reading about her trying to push the fact.

The idea that Jaxon was losing his sole due to the broken mating bomb was an interesting take and I found myself not really caring for his character through this book. The angsty energy just frustrated me.

I really want to see some developments with Macy and eden, I ship them super hard. They are cute. But I wouldn’t be surprised if Macy finds it difficult to be with someone so close after Xavier’s death.

I thought that the trip to the giants land was very intriguing, I love the expansion of the world Wolff has created and seeing more of the courts and their functions.

Flints mother (I can’t remember her name) was a very mysterious character and I couldn’t expect her betrayal if I’m being honest but I am glad she got a taste of her own medicine when flint was thrown into jail alongside grace and Hudson.

The introduction of the two new characters, from the prison area, were fun as we haven’t seen characters like this before. One sweet but narcissistic, and the other only focused on self preservation.

The jail section of the book was so stressful to read. Watching Hudson and Flint suffer through the chamber and their personalities completely crumble was saddening. Their escape from prison ending in grace getting a cool tattoo and saving the blacksmith.

The last part of this book broke my heart. Cyrus trying to ambush the “unkillable beast” and almost killing flint was shattering along side Luca’s death and Jason’s near death. Jaxon living by receiving Flings mothers dragon heart was monumental.

Grace receiving the crown was expected and I’m happy for it as our characters really needed a win after everything.

The ending wasn’t a shock but it had me excited for the next book. With everyone kidnapped and hod knows where, I can’t wait to see what happens.

This book is fun and fast paced, the only reason I can’t give it 5 stars is because of the way I feel pulled out of the book when current references are made and cringy dialogue, though it’s not common, it happened enough for me to be frustrated by it.

2.5⭐/5
my least favorite book out of the three...the love triangle was annoying, grace was irritating w the whole Jaxon/Hudson situation (tho I loved her whenever she was thinking or focused on something else than her love life)
she was dense w this whole "it's the bond" thing it pissed me off tbh and she never listens which also irritated me..girl I love u but if someone tells u not to do something because it's a bad idea then pls listen (she already had that problem in book 2 sigh she's stubborn...but well she's still great)
now that the whole love triangle thing is done, I'm pretty sure book 4 will be way better
also: Jaxon's death was anticlimactic because it was OBVIOUS he was gonna come back..that's a shame
and I feel like Luca died for the jaxon/flint ship to sail..it annoys me tbh but I'm not that interested in the both of them so I don't really care in the end I guess

Ouch.

My brain and my heart both hurt.

This book was so painfully slow. How did they complete the final battle in about 50 pages?? I guess we’ll never know. It feels like so much happened and yet so little happened.

I liked the increased romance in this book compared to the others and the writing has even gotten better.

This series is not very good but I’m too invested at this point to just give up. Catch me reading all four other books in this series by the end of the year.

This book actually destroyed my heart. I mean I’m literally crying at my desk at work because the ending hurt my heart so much. While occasionally I do want to shake grace and yell “USE YOUR BRAIN” but we’re chill now.
