Good for children, but not quite a great book. I had fun following the clues for a while. Then it took a long time and then the climax wasn't that intense for all that build up. It was still a good story though. I liked the characters and can't wait to get to learn more about Sato. Probably won't read the whole series though.

I bought this book after hearing the author speak on a panel. And now I finally read it. I really enjoyed the book and found Tick an interesting and a character I could relate to in some ways. About the only thing I didn't like were all the loose ends at the end. I realize it is a series, but I would have liked it to wrap up this one a little more...oh well, guess I need to read the next one now.

This is the first book I have ever read written by someone I know. I don't know whether it makes me a harsher judge or a more lenient one. I enjoyed the book. I was immediately drawn into the story. From there I felt it progressed too slowly . . . it was always building, building and then in a quick 30 pages all that you had anticipated was already over. I look forward to the rest of the series as Dashner's writing style matures as well as the characters. Like many, one of the things that stands out so strongly in the book is the character, Tick's relationship with his father. It is not often when you want your children to read a book that is not only great to read, but reinforces the attitude that parents and children are a team not two opposing forces fighting.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This book was amazingly good!
What made me read it in the first place was that it was by my favourite author (aka- author of the maze runner series).
And I have to say... Once again James dashner has wrote a book I love and can't wait to read the next one!

The fastest 500-page read I've ever encountered. I didn't think much of the first 300 or so pages in which Tick and his dad stumble around trying to figure out what's going on, but I quite enjoyed it once Tick made it to the Bermuda Triangle and onwards to the 13th Reality. Heck, I might even read the second book in this series.

Very disappointing read. It had some good ideas and a lot of potential, but the writing style was distractingly juvenile. I was reminded of my writing style from middle school! I would not have finished this book if a friend hadn't loaned it to me--I felt obligated to finish it, and finally did today, but it felt like a chore! I rarely dislike books this much and maybe it's just because I have recently finished some excellently written books (I just discovered Ursula K. Le Guin!). This book really did have some good stuff in it, but it just needs major polishing on the writing style.
