4 ⭐️ a great follow-up to “what moves the dead”! I’m still in awe at how T. Kingfisher writes horror. It’s done in such a descriptive, grotesque, but beautiful way. Like I feel so conflicted calling horror beautiful
Not as enjoyable or dread inducing as the first book, but still a decent and easy read.

What Feasts at Night is the second book in the Sworn Soldiers series of novella's by T. Kingfisher. This book follows Alex Easton after the events at the House of Usher. They find themselves having to go to a hunting lodge in their native country to help Miss Potter look at mushrooms. However, what Alex finds is a mystery that might be paranormal and hard to solve.
I really enjoyed this novella. I thought the first book was so good but I think this one was even better! I really liked the paranormal element in this book as I thought it really added an interesting aspect to this novel. The horror elements of this really had my stomach churning cause it's pretty graphic but so well done.
Alex as a main character is so interesting to follow. They are very introspective and really look inwards and think to themselves. They're not as good with people who are outside military scope but tries their best to be the nicest person to everyone they meet. The way T. Kingfisher is able to make us care about a character in such a short series of novella's is so well done.
I cannot recommend this horror series enough. It's so well written and I am really enjoying the stories.
