I have this trilogy but didn't get into this particular story...
I couldn't get into this. It reminds me of Motherless Brooklyn a bit.
dark
mysterious
reflective
medium-paced
Read this for school, and i always seem to really enjoy the books i read for school. maybe it’s because i understand them more? the in depth analysis of the themes and writing is interesting. might just be that my teacher is good. anyway i loved how this book made me chuckle, shocked and intrigued. and i loved how it played so elegantly with postmodern themes ;)
In A Little History of Literature, John Sutherland calls this book "a metaphysical detective story," so I have no idea why I thought that I would like it. It was not for me. I like realistic fiction.
Such a gripping, wild read!! Will definitely look into continuing on with this series.
This really struck the right kind of nerve in the right kind of way. Incredibly surreal and bizarre and meta, but in a way that feels sincere and heartfelt and not in the overbearing self-indulgent/aggrandizing way postmodern literature is wont to do!
