My second novel by Kim Thúy and certainly not my last. I felt deeply connected to the narrator in a way only vietnamese story-tellers can make me feel. Loved all the foods and memories depicted in the book - and loved the way that all the chapters started with a word in vietnamese and its translation in french.
*Mild spoiler*
I would have appreciated just another chapter at the end, so that it would end with Mãn's retrospective of her relationship with her culture or her heritage and not her relationship with her lover. But I guess that's just me.

Continuing my TBR project:
This is one of the oldest selections on my TBR list - Originally added July 28, 2015.
Well, the language was beautiful.
The story, not so much.

loved the flow of the story - it felt like i was listening to an aunt tell me her life story.
although it felt a bit meandering and short

Solo puedo recomendarla.

The writing is lovely and you could feel the passion seeping through. However, the choice to write the story as a collection of interconnected vignettes makes the narrative feel wishy washy and a little too simplistic.
