1.5? I didn't quite hate it, but 2 stars seems generous.
I had a feeling that I wouldn't necessarily like it much when I read the disclaimer at the beginning of the book where the author says that she prefers to go into a book not knowing much. And for a full list of trigger warnings I should go to her website. What?! It didn't exactly go up from there.
This book suffered from what I call magic vag and wonder shlong syndrome. The "romance" between these characters can literally be chalked up to she has a magic vag(ina) and he has a wonder shlong because honestly, there's no other reason that they should like each other. They f*** in the first several pages and then they can't keep their hands off each other, but other than the aforementioned magical genitalia, there's nothing given as to why they should like each other.
Are we really supposed to be rooting for the *um* happy ending here? Really? It's called the happily never after series so I wondered if maybe there's a tragic ending, but of course they end up together because that's what's supposed to happen in a "romance" book. Are we supposed to be rooting for them? Because I sure as hell wasn't.
I read this for a book club. Had it not been for book club I would have abandoned it far sooner. So on second thought, maybe I *did* hate this book after all.

Spoiler
When, at the end of the book, he (a federal DEA agent, whose mother and sister are both drug addicts, who has spent his entire professional life trying to rid the world of drug manufacturers/cartels) shoots and kills a fellow agent, who is arresting his "girlfriend" in order to help her escape (the "girlfriend" is a manufacturer of heroin, a murderer, and all around messed up person) well let's just say this plot point made no sense in the context of the story. Oh yes it does--because they both have magnetic privates and can't keep their hands off each other--so it makes perfect sense that he would throw away everything he believes in for this woman whom he knows nothing about (except that she's part of the drug cartel he's trying to take down). Are we really supposed to be rooting for the *um* happy ending here? Super quick read!
Loosely based on a wizard of oz reimagining but I did see a few things that did directly relate.
Again it did what it said on the tin. As a fantasy reader there’s no real depth to the book BUT that’s not what these books are here for and I really enjoyed this as a palette cleanser. Dark romance so check your triggers.

Enjoyed the twists and turns and that Evelina gives badass vibes.
