It's very well written, it gets you hooked and I think what makes it especially interesting is the point of view of a child who is growing up and learning about society and societal expectations.

My criticism is that it has a problem with white saviourism and I found it hard to believe that Atticus Finches existed back then.

This book has been on my tbr for so long I feel ashamed I didn't pick this up earlier — better late than never, though, and there were so many layers to the story that I know I'll be rereading this some day. The court scene was my favourite, I felt like I was holding my breath the whole time I was reading it.

i usually wouldn’t find myself rating a book i read for school so high, but i think this story deserves it.

there’s so many layers to this story and so much to unpack, so i’ll just say that i genuinely enjoyed it. i know it’s controversial, but i really did like it. i laughed and cried and i think it was very reflective in many ways. the character development was incredible, but also i guess that’s the point of the story. the way scout reflects on her story at the end from a different perspective gave me a very strong sense of completeness. i’m sad after reading this, but also i feel ready to go into my english class tomorrow and reflect on it.

definitely a reread ✅

read this for english class and loved the writing style after i got used to it (30ish pages). the topics explored are hard to get through and the ethics of the white author’s usage of racial slurs throughout the book are not my place to speak on, but something to be aware of. overall, i found the story to be deeply moving and i think it’s worth your time!

I loved this book so much! The topics in this book were all dealt with in a good way and I liked all the characters. It was such a heart breaking book and I enjoyed very much. It’s very well written, too! It does feel a little weird how Atticus is kind of portrayed as being the hero, when he did the minimum of not being racist. I did like seeing everything through Scouts point of view because it is interesting seeing how a child see’s things and thinks. I will never forget these characters 💕 Side note, but I loved to see how Jem grew throughout the book
