Charles Yu is smart and fun and probably more meta than is healthy. I liked this collection but love his novels, where the generic play is self-critical and an organising principle, and oddly enough the writing is tighter. Guess I should be reviewing those books instead but life is short and I'm feeling reckless

I liked some of the stories in this collection, but for the most part, I was really bored. I think that Charles Yu always has interesting ideas, but some of the stories were a bit too weird and dull for me. Though, I will say, every story was unique and I've never read anything quite like this collection.

My favorite stories:
- Standard Loneliness Package
- Hero Takes Major Damage
- Yeoman
- First Person Shooter

Some of these ideas were really neat, but I didn't find the stories at all satisfying. They set up a premise and introduced characters and then left the wispy beginning of a plot hanging around for me to think about. Maybe I just didn't get them. In any case, too oblique for me. I think i'm done with Charles Yu.

A couple good ones (toward the beginning), a couple of real duds (toward the end).

Started this book while driving through Nebraska. Finished the book while driving through Nebraska, which explains a lot. Sort of. Or not. Yeah for stories anyway!
