Also a review for "Dear Ijeawele, or a Feminist Manifesto in Fifteen Suggestions" by the same author - I decided to read both of these essays as 1 entry, because they’re both pretty short and fairly well related. I loved reading these. The author is from Nigeria, so a lot of the topics she addresses are related to feminism and prejudice she sees prevalent in her home country, but it’s also definitely relevant to most countries. The first one is about raising a feminist, and the second one is more about how to address feminist culture in today’s world (it’s adapted from a TED Talk she gave). Both are very quick and insightful reads.

It really is a book that everyone should read, short enough to easily read within an hour. Really makes you think about so many of the things that we just take as fact, forcing you to look beyond the norms of our society.

Maybe it's unfair to judge a book (TedTalk) written in 2012 by 2022 standards, but this felt like a rather basic, un-nuanced look at feminism. I can't remember if it was revolutionary at the time it came out, but nowadays I think there are much more compelling and intersectional arguments in favor of feminism.

Very well written introduction to feminism. I wish she elaborated more on how feminism benefits men aside from reducing their financial burden
