a quick little book with a collection of Stoic teachings around one simple idea: an obstacle may become the way.

a philosopher is someone who not only looks at problems theoreitcally, but also who applies his knowledge and solves them practically.

Awesome book that really helps put things in perspective. Should be required reading for everyone.

At first, I was hesitant to pick up this book because I already embrace the worldview that obstacles are good. I love tackling tough problems, so I figure this is for someone else who needs a mindset shift.

I really enjoyed this book. I particularly enjoyed the meditations on removing emotion from decision-making. The ideas are largely based on the writings of Marcus Aurelius and other Stoics and is largely an exploration of their living philosophy, reinforced with great anecdotes about Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, John D. Rockefeller, Tommy John, and more impressive people.

This book inspired me to pick up Meditations by Marcus Aurelius and Letters by Seneca, so it's pointed the way to some interested learning.

I have been need of some clear thinking of late and really enjoyed Ego is the Enemy, but this book fell flat. The connection to Stoic philosophy is often marginal and the advice is contradictory. Charge boldly ahead! Don't charge too boldly ahead!

Eh.

Use your situations to your advantage. The way you look at a situation is often a determining factor of how it will affect you. Another wonderful book by Ryan Holiday. Highly recommend.

Advice on how and why to frame negatives as positives.

An interesting dare I say modern take on stoicism. Kind of repetitive but was still a worthwhile read for me.

Break on through to the other side

So many thought-provoking moments throughout this book that I wanted to give the time to let sink in so it took a little longer to read. That is something I love in a nonfiction book, it makes you think and hopefully, you learn and grow from it. I listened to this on audiobook and hope to pick up the physical copy for the reread. The audiobook also has an interview with Tim Ferris and Ryan Holiday which was great as well.
