DID NOT FINISH: 24%

Just little stories/people that live by a way of stoicism. Maybe I’ll pick it up later.

Wanted to DNF this but powered through. It's reductive of the struggle that folks face towards productivity and ingenuity. While it does have some solid nuggets in there, I didn't find it to be the end all be all summary of stoicism that the introduction promised.

A simple philosophy, but this book is very quotable. It is well-written and worth the read.

This was an amazing book with so much to offer. As someone who had little knowledge of Stoicism before I have not only learned a lot from the stories in the book but I have been given great leads on where to expand my interest in the great Stoics. I highly recommend this to anyone at any stage in their life, I can't imagine someone not taking away at least SOMETHING from reading this book that will improve their life or their mindset. Ryan is a brilliant guy with a very bright future ahead of him.

This book came highly recommended, and had its moments. It wasn't a great fit for me, though.

I'm a Christian, and while much of the advice is logical and can be applied regardless of worldview, the heavy Stoic influence feels... anemic, I guess.

Beyond worldview, I also found it too abstract. I appreciated many of the philosophies in theory, but the application was often nebulous.

It was a slog to finish, and I would have spent the time more profitably reading a blog post on the topic and then moving on to the next book in my to-read pile.

A good intro to Stoicism. One that leaves you wanting to dig in more.
