Gorgeous writing. Loved it even though I couldn't care less about NY at this stage of my life

At the end of this book Colson Whitehead writes “Talking about New York is a way of talking about the world,” and the way that he configures moments so specific yet so familiar and shared surely does make this line true.
Okay. This book defies my typical review outline, so I guess I'm just going to have to go with my gut here.
This book was good, but it should not be read this quickly. I was reading for class, and the amount of nothing that happened was a little exhausting. I think it accomplished the goal it set out with--to utterly confuse and disorient the reader, to dazzle them with vivid and mostly unconnected description--but it also was hard to read and by extension, to enjoy.
So, 3/5 for me. Good, but not my cup of tea.
