Shadow Show: All-New Stories in Celebration of Ray Bradbury is what an anthology should be. The stories were all well written and interesting, but the best part of this book was that at the end of each story the author took the time to explain how and why the story was influenced by Ray Bradbury.

Ray Bradbury is the perfect author for this kind of anthology. His writing spans all the genres of speculative fiction, so an anthology of stories influenced by him can include horror, magical realism, traditional science fiction, all of which is included in this book. There really is something for everyone in this book, and that is more of a testament to Mr. Bradbury than anything.

This is one of those rare anthologies where the good stories vastly outnumber the "meh" stories. Almost all of the stories in here are very evocative of the late Mr. Bradbury's work (although, at the time this came out, he was still alive)--except for Harlan Ellison's story, which I'll admit I didn't get (but then, I usually have a hard time with him) and just seems to be way out there somewhere.

In addition to Ellison's story, there is only one other story that I greeted with a "meh", and this was not because the story didn't pay off or anything like that; I just felt that "Two of a Kind" took way too long to get where it was going.

Still, 24 enjoyable stories out of 26 ain't bad. If you are a fan of Ray Bradbury--or just a fan of good writing, you should add this book to your collection.

As with any Anthology there are some hits and some misses. There are some that were easy to see as "great" - Gaiman, Ellison - and some that were nice surprises "The Girl in the Funeral Parlor" by Sam Weller(editor of the anth) and "The Tattoo" by Bonnie Jo Campbell. Worked great as an audiobook. Each story was matched with a different narrator.

To get the most out of this series of stories you should definitely have read a lot of Ray Bradbury. I know I missed quite a few references that could have made these stories better for me because I've only read a few of Bradbury's books.

I won this book via LibaryThing Early Reviewers Program.

Ray Bradbury is one of my favorite authors of all time. I think the entire idea of having celebrated authors write short stories in celebration of him is awesome and wonderful. I was shocked at just how many popular authors have been inspired by Bradbury! And the stories were all Bradbury-esque. I enjoyed each and every one.

At the end of each story, the author explains how Bradbury impacted his or her life and what the stories reflected. This was perhaps more interesting than the stories themselves! Each author was able to capture the spirit of Bradbury in some way.

I was so honored to have been able to read an ARC of this book. I was so happy to see just how many authors have been inspired by him and will carry the torch for him in years to come. The collection was also great for people who have already read all of Bradbury’s work and are looking for stories of a similar caliber.

I recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of Ray Bradbury and the themes in his works. It was awesome.

I enjoyed this, but I would give it 3.5 stars if I could. Some of the stories were great, some were ok (as is the case with most short story collections). What it did most strongly is make me want to go back & read Ray Bradbury stories.
